Instead of driving for 19 hours with lots of breaks, we decided to drive to Texas through the night with only 2 or 3 stops instead. Tyler was pretty set on making it in one day and I was pretty sure I was not going to make 19 hours in the car in one stretch, so this was our compromise.
On Tuesday morning, we removed all but one of our countdown rings...
Then on Wednesday, Mommy was frantically packing and cleaning, packing and cleaning. Tate went to school and Chase went down for nap and Mommy went back to work.
Tate came home from school, ate a quick lunch, went down for nap, woke up early and we were out the door by 3 PM. We were off to a good start and Tyler was exceedingly happy to be leave the house on time. For the first leg of the trip, Tate was doing extremely well. We did turn on the TV in the MV - I know, I know! I was trying to use it as the last resort, but my activities lasted for like 3 minutes each and it just was the best to do at the time and so we did it.
Chase was an angel, he took a third nap on our way out, woke up for about 2 more hours playful and happy and then he was out the rest of the night.
Overall, the trip was fast and pleasant. Those few moments when all three boys were sleeping were surprisingly peaceful blessings. What an excellent time to pray for all those details I tend to race through or skip when life is going at regular speed.
The plan was to sleep while the other one was at the wheel, alas, Tate had a rocky night, waking up quiet disoriented and unhappy. So shut-eye was more challenging than expected for the passenger, but did happen in little spurts. We also had a few "re-orientation" moments that took some time off the top, but overall we made it to Boerne faster than expected - close to 15 hours.
As soon as we arrived (around 7 AM) Susan shouted out to me, "Now, you are a true Allbritton" since the Allbritton "way" is to drive all the way through no matter the destination. :)
