Today, the boys and I served our first Meals on Wheels. We showed up at the Senior Resource Center around 10:30, collected the food (all in paper bags) and set off with Nelly the Navigator in hand. We had three stops. On our way, Tate and I talked about the nice things we could say to these folks…good morning, have a nice day…etc.
Tate was all over it! There were 2 bags per person and he carried one and I carried the other. The first house, a note told us to leave it on the outside table. The second house was quite disheveled, with lots of trash and a little smelly. We walked up and Tate said, “where’s the house?” It gave us an opportunity to talk about how he was having trouble keeping up his home. He then proceeded to say, “why doesn’t he have his mommy help him?” And then it trailed off into a discussion of heaven and mommies…yikes! Anyway, the last house was nice and Tate said “have a nice day"!” and they were just tickled!
I would say, overall our time today driving around meals was fun and rewarding. Tate was such a gentleman and a big-boy helper. We are going to do this twice a month for now and see how it goes. Three stops was probably our limit, Chase was starting to dose off on our way home.
P.S. Isn’t this a great shirt!?
